Minggu ini terlintas satu idea / konsep. Seperti biasa, bila terlintas sahaja, buat dahulu sebelum lupa. Tidak semestinya idea / konsep yang terlintas itu terus terbaik hasilnya tetapi ia satu permulaan. Kalau tidak buat dahulu, idea / konsep tersebut sudah tentu hilang begitu sahaja. Kali ini menggabungkan dua idea / konsep dalam satu. Kapas dan fake bokeh. Seperti gambar BTS di atas, satu set up yang mudah sahaja. Maaf la kalau lighting tu nampak serabut keadaannya. Maklumlah, bujet rendah punya gajet, DIY sahaja apa yang ada. Haha. Hasilnya? As per below :-

SOOC. Tanpa sebarang advance editing / manipulasi. Memang antara usaha saya untuk hasilkan gambar tanpa menggunakan editing / manipulasi yang melampau. Cuba untuk menghasilkan satu karya yang nampak asli. Tiada salahnya editing / manipulasi yang berlebihan, cuma saya cabar diri untuk tidak membuatnya. Sebenarnya boleh dapatkan angle yang lebih menarik, framing yang lebih baik, cuma keadaan lens sekarang yang digunakan tidak sesuai. Belum dapat lagi beli lens ! Haha. Maka buat masa ini seperti biasa, kita tuntut ilmu dahulu. Banyak yang boleh diperbaiki sebenarnya antaranya kesan cahaya pada background tersebut. Hmmm... Takpa, nanti cuba lagi.

Weekend kali ini saya akan cuba mempraktikkan sesuatu yang saya belajar daripada Toy Photographer yang saya kenali di dalam Instagram. Ia merupakan satu teknik yang tidak menggunakan kos yang tinggi namun hasilnya sangat menarik jika dibuat dengan cara yang betul. Kali ini saya akan menunjukkan cara - cara untuk menghasilkan kabus tanpa menggunakan photoshop. Jangan risau kerana teknik ini selamat dan tidak menggunakan bahan yang berbahaya. Mungkin teknik ini bukan di tahap professional tetapi saya yakin hasilnya akan tetap memuaskan kerana saya telah melihatnya sendiri. Ada dikalangan professional photographer menggunakan smoke machine atau apa jua peralatan untuk menghasilkan kesan kabus yang lebih realistik namun sudah tentu ia melibatkan kos yang agak tinggi dan ada juga menggunakan debu simen, baking powder dan seangkatannya dimana ia membahayakan kesihatan serta merosakkan peralatan seperti kamera (antara pengalaman mereka yang pernah menggunakan teknik ini, lens rosak akibat memerangkap debu) namun tidak dinafikan hasilnya sangat menarik. Mungkin satu hari nanti saya sendiri akan cuba menggunakan bahan - bahan tersebut, tetapi buat masa sekarang, kita bermula dengan yang mudah terdahulu.

Seperti gambar di atas, kelihatan bendasing berwarna putih saya letakkan di sekitar Lego Minifigure tersebut. Untuk pengetahuan semua, bendasing tersebut adalah kapas yang saya beli di farmasi pada harga sekitar RM5.00 dan mungkin ada yang lebih murah lagi bergantung kepada jenama. Kapas inilah yang akan digunakan untuk menghasilkan kesan kabus di dalam gambar. Bagi pencahayaan, saya menggunakan lampu LED yang saya beli di kedai 7 eleven dan dibalut dengan kertas putih A4 untuk melembutkan lagi cahayanya. Boleh juga dibalut dengan kain putih. Tiada masalah. Lampu LED tersebut kemudiannya saya aturkannya agar kesan tersebut dapat / kena dengan apa yang di inginkan. Latar belakang props tersebut saya letakkan satu papan hitam namun bukanlah satu kewajipan bagi papan hitam tersebut. Boleh digunakan warna lain atau tidak menggunakan sebarang papan lansung. Terpulang kepada kreativiti masing - masing.

Bagi permulaan, saya set kamera saya dengan setting ISO 5000, F11 dan shutter speed pada 1/100 kalau saya tidak silap. Saya menggunakan F11 kerana saya tidak mahu Lego Minifigure yang dibelakang terlalu blur dan akibat daripada penggunakan Aperture yang kecil, saya perlu meninggikan ISO bagi mendapatkan pencahayaan yang lebih baik. Beberapa shot diambil dan salah satu gambar adalah seperti di bawah.

Dalam gambar tersebut boleh kelihatan bentuk kapas tersebut. Mungkin penggunaan F11 tidak sesuai bagi teknik ini atau mungkin saya ada silap. Saya cuba menggunakan Aperture yang lebih besar seperti F3.2, F4 atau F5 dan hasilnya lebih baik seperti gambar di bawah.

Its totally SOOC ! Dengan menggunakan aperture yang lebih besar, kapas tersebut blur sehingga memberikan kesan kabus yang lebih realistik berbanding gambar sebelum. Namun kelemahan disini apabila menggunakan lebih daripada 1 minifigures dan jika susunan tidak dirancang dengan betul, minifigure yang di belakang atau didepan akan turut blur. Itu tujuan asal saya menggunakan F11 kerana ingin pastikan ketiga tiga minifigure tersebut sharp atau tidak begitu blur. Sebab itu gambar kedua saya tukar kepada satu minifigure sahaja. Mungkin ada cara lain untuk jadikan ia lebih baik. Seperti biasa, google / youtube, buat kajian, buat eksperimen, dan akhirnya pasti akan temui jawapan.

Apa jadi kalau saya warnakan kapas tersebut. Boleh dapat kesan debu tanah bertebangan, asap kebakaran dan sebagainya. Bagaimana pula kalau pencahayaan saya letak colour gel? Kadang kala dengan satu teknik kita boleh perkembangkan lagi. Yang penting kena praktikkan. Next post, gabungan kapas dan fake bokeh. Eh, macam mana tu? Nantikan !

At last I have completed all the Lego Movie main characters. It fits well with double decker couch. I'm not really into collecting different designs of each minifigures. As long as it can represent the main characters, it's good enough for me.

Memang normal dalam alam pekerjaan apabila kita berpindah ke satu jabatan yang baru, akan ada situasi di mana kita perlu membersihkan tahi yang ditinggalkan. Tahi yang ditinggalkan pula ada pelbagai jenis. Seperti alam tahi, ada tahi keras, ada tahi panjang, ada tahi bulat - bulat kecil, ada tahi cirit dan sebagainya. Begitu juga dengan jenis tahi kerja yang ditinggalkan. Ada kerja yang tidak lengkap, ada kerja yang bermasalah, ada kerja yang silap dan ada kerja yang entah hilang ke mana. Sejujurnya saya tiada masalah dalam membersihkan tahi kerja ni, cuma satu perkara yang saya kurang gemar adalah tahi kerja yang bermasalah. Sebabnya tahi kerja yang bermasalah ini sudahnya orang yang baru masuk ke jabatan tersebut bertanggungjawab dan akan diambil tindakan atas masalah tersebut.

Secara jujurnya sedang merancang bagi projek 2017 dan terasa sukarnya juga untuk realisasikannya apabila kita kekurangan peralatan yang sesuai terutamanya lens. Sangat memerlukan lens macro atau sekurang - kurangnya zoom lens seperti Canon 24-105mm F4 bagi mendapatkan komposisi gambar yang lebih menarik. Sangat sukar sebenarnya mengambil gambar minifigure menggunakan lens 40mm (boleh dikatakan agak wide) dan akhirnya terpaksa crop gambar tersebut. Sudah pasti kualitinya sedikit berkurangan dan tidak kelihatan menarik. Bila berkata tentang macro lens, ada sahaja yang memberikan cadangan seperti lens converter, terbalikkan lens dan sebagainya. Tetapi hasilnya tidak seperti yang dibayangkan. Maka semua cadangan tersebut tidak boleh digunapakai dan tidak akan difikirkan lagi. Hanya membazir duit membeli benda - benda tersebut walaupun murah, akhirnya jumlahnya seperti membeli lens baru yang diperlukan.

Maka dengan ini ketetapan yang dibuat, fokus kepada perkara yang diperlukan dan jangan mencari jalan pintas yang akhirnya tiada hasil. Plannig ahead for something big in 2017 !

I grew up with Star Wars episode IV, V and VI. That was the first Star Wars Trilogy that I watched, yeah I know, the Star Wars starts with that episode and later on continued with episode I, II and III and the latest one is episode VII and Rogue One. I'm not here to review each episode but simply to tell that for me, I think the best sets for Lego Star Wars comes from the first trilogy. Even most of the UCS Lego Star Wars comes from there too. The Super Star Destroyer, The Slave 1, The Death Star, The Ewok Village, The Sandcrawler, The Millenium Falcon, The Assault on Hoth and a lot more. Not much comes from Episode I, II, III and VII yet.

Currently I'm in mood for that earlier trilogy. Wanna save some money to buy certain UCS sets for my photography. Especially for my project, once I have a proper lens and lighting. My target is before the year of 2020, I can publish my project. Eh? Haha. It's just an idea of what I wish for. Wanna say a lot about it, but I'm gonna do it. As Yoda said, do or do not, there is no try.

It doesn't seems right. Yeah, I did read a post about Violence in Toy Photography in www.stuckinplastic.com. A blog which I follow and read all the latest updates everyday. Nothing much to say about it, but it made me realized, it's not a good idea to spread violence especially through Toy Photography. Well, at first I was into Toy Photography because of the creativity in creating cute scene with Lego minifigures. Somewhere in the middle, I took the wrong path. It's not too late to turn around. Toy Photography should be a fun thing to do. A peaceful type of photography. Lets make a better world !

It seems that 2017 will be Batman Fever ! With the new Lego sets at the shops, new box of Lego Batman Minifigures Series and the upcoming The Lego Batman Movie, Batman will be the Toy Photographer's subject for few months. I've seen some of the Lego Batman Movie sets, and the sets looks awesome ! The cheapest will be the Batman chasing Joker flying with balloons around RM69.00. Yeah ! That's will be the first set to buy.

Ok, forget about the sets, lets plan ahead using Batman for my Toy Photography. Hmmm..so..I think I'll start with....

Today will be the 1st January of 2017. Its New Year ! I bet most of us have set a new bucket list whether a new set of list or carry forward the unfinished business from last year. What ever it is, how do I start the new year? Yes, the first thing that I need to do is to punch away all the negative things. It can be people, thoughts, surrounding, habits and others. It's because last year in 2016, the main thing that dragged me was negative thoughts. Well, the list was like :-

• I can't do this
• I'm afraid to
• Its too much to handle
• I lost my touch
• I don't have time
• I don't have proper equipment
• I can't be that good
• It's not easy
• I'll do it later

Yeah, I can add more to the list but I need to stop it. It's not gonna happen in 2017. I'll start the year with positive things. Lets be brave and start working. Let make things happen ! I punch away all the Negative Things ! BANG !

The one question starting with why, "Why are you taking photos of Lego and toys". Its the question where if I'm too lazy to answer it, I'll just answer "because its fun !". Well, is it the only point why i'm taking photos of Lego and toys? Sure no. There's a lot of factors why I'm into Toy Photography. Fun is one of the points of the Why Factors. But first, to be honest, I'm not actually a Lego Collector. I'm more into Lego Minifigures and toys that looks cute to be photographed. That's why I don't bother to have all the previous sets that is "retired set" unless the set is important for my photography. But hey, I do collect Ultimate Collector's Series (UCS) for Lego Star Wars. But still, the set which cost me a lot of money like the Death Star with the price of RM2500, I'll skip it. Yeah, I know, there's Lepin, Lele and others that cost cheaper around RM500.00, but in my personal view, the feel of the bricks is totally different. Lego feels better. But hey, if you want to buy the other brand, go ahead. I'm ok, we're still friend.

Lets get back to the main topic. The Why Factors.

1. Avanaut and Zenith Ardor

It was like 2 years ago, while I was scrolling my Instagram, I found the Instagram's Account these two photographers, Avanaut and Zenith Ardor. Honestly said, its the kickstart for me to fall in love with Toy Photography. I just love the way they use toys (mostly Lego minifigures) as a subject in photography. There's a story in each photos, its like the photo is alive. Because of them, I started to buy Lego. Yes, just started it, just because I wanted to use it in Photography and since that day, from just buying certain sets, Lego is now one of my hobbies.

2. Learn New Things in a fun way

Toy Photography helps you to learn new things in a fun way. While learning new techniques, you're also playing with the set. Toy Photography is not different from Portrait Photography, Food Photography and Product Photography. It requires you to set up a proper lighting, the background, the subject, and your creativity to set up the scene. You can even play around with the lighting as if during portrait / fashion photography such as using colour gel and others. The different will be the size of the subject. I did use some of the techniques from portrait photography in Toy Photography. It's not easy at first as you need to DIY for certain set up. But its fun !

3. New Friends

Toy Photography is like an international language. You can be friends with everyone from around the world even you only met via virtual. Just by 2-3 comments on Instagram at every post of the person you follow, later on, you're officially a friend that shares the same hobby. I have friends from Indonesia, United Kingdom, United States, Brunei and a lot more. Just by having the same hobby, Toy Photography.

4. Time

Last but not least, it's time. Being a person with most of the time during weekdays at the office and being a husband and father during night and weekends, time seems to be my enemy. During the days where I'm a Portrait Photographer, a Wedding Photographer, and a Street Photographer, I rarely have the time to do it. There were times where I can't pick up my DSLR for one to two months. I was like, that's it, I give up in photography. But its not easy to stop for the things that you love. At last, Toy Photography is the answer. Time is my bestfriend now. I can do it anytime I want.


Whatever the Why Factors, the main thing is that I'm happy with it. Me as an adult, playing with toys? Well, age is just a number. Nothing to be ashamed with. As the quote in Lego Movie :-

" You know the rules, this isn't a toy. Actually it's a highly sophisticated inter-locking brick system. "

Secara jujurnya diri ini adalah peminat kepada Lego. Salah satu jenama bricks yang agak terkenal sejak zaman kanak - kanak lagi. Kalau dikira semula, 20 tahun yang lalu sudah terjebak dengan Lego. Terasa sayangnya Lego yang dibeli pada masa dulu hilang dan ada diantaranya "diberikan" kepada anak buah. Kalaulah masih lagi tersimpan rapi, sudah tentu terasa bangganya mempunyai set classic. Namun begitu, pembelian terhenti seketika semasa sekolah menengah, dan begitu banyak set Lego yang menarik terlepas pandang dan akhirnya menjadi Retired Set yang kini jika hendak membelinya, harga agak tinggi, ribuan secara jujurnya.

Cuma tahun ini agak berbeza sedikit apabila satu jenama bricks yang dipanggil Lepin muncul. Boleh dikatakan 100% design Lego diterjermahkan semula dengan harga yang jauh lebih murah. Salah satu sebab diri ini mulai minat pada Lepin adalah kerana Retired Set Lego dikeluarkan semula dan set Modular Lego yang jauh lebih murah harganya. Bagi saya, pembelian Lepin adalah hanya kepada Retired Set dan Modular. Bagi keluaran baru, saya lebih gemar Lego. Semua bricks yang saya shoot di studio adalah jenama Lego terutama minifigures kerana minifigures Lego lebih kemas dan cantik berbanding jenama lain.

Seperti yang saya kata, pembelian Lepin adalah hanya kepada Retired Set dan Modular, tetapi kenapa saya beli Lepin Wall E? Sebab ia adalah pembelian pertama saya dan saya perlukan satu set untuk di review sebelum membeli set yang lain. RRP Lego Wall E adalah RM250.00 manakala bagi Lepin di sekitar RM80 ke RM110. It depends on the seller. Dan setiap set juga dilengkapi dengan manual seperti Lego juga.

Kadang - kadang bila dah terlalu banyak idea tetapi tidak diterjemahkan, maka anda akan rasa keliru dan tersekat di tengah - tengah. Maka tiada sebarang hasil terjadi akhirnya semua lupa. Nasib baik diri ini dah ambil pengajaran yang sebelum ini di mana semua idea di tulis dalam satu buku kecil. Hanya perlu rujuk semula untuk ingat kembali. - Page 59, Small Scenes Big Galaxy -

Berkesempatan pada malam ini untuk dapatkan satu scene Star Wars menggunakan Lego seolah - olah berada di Planet Hoth. Sepatutnya menggunakan Lego Minifigure Snow Troopers dan bukannya Storm Troopers, tetapi belum lagi membeli set tersebut. Maka terpaksalah menggunakan Storm Troopers. Kali ni dapat mengawal keadaan dengan lebih baik daripada sebelum ini. Arah pencahayaan juga dikenalpasti yang lebih bersesuaian. Cuma latar belakang perlu ditambah baik. Warna hitam dilihat terlalu kosong berbanding menggunakan warna kelabu. Mungkin juga perlu diletak props seperti batu bersalji dan sedikit pokok. Akan cuba tambah baik bagi scene berikutnya.
